There is so much specific knowledge a jeweler has to know, it's easy to forget that our jewelry terminology is almost like a second language. I can't tell you the amount of times I've been talking about a ring and get that blank stare, head cocked to one side look at the mention of the word "bezel" or "backplate". But it doesn't come without genuine fascination and intrigue. So I thought I'd share some jewelry knowledge with you today and break down the anatomy of a ring using the Warrior Ring with Onyx as an example.
Fun Fact: When designing a ring, the bezel is usually the first element that is made because the shape and size of the stone determines the rest of the design. Also, setting the stone is the very last thing to happen in the the making process because you can't apply heat once the stone is set.
